Use You Tube to Accelerate Learning!!

HOW?  Here's one example: Most of the Schoolhouse Rock videos are available @ YouTube. BUT YouTube is blocked at school, you say.

No worries! Use Videora (free for PC) or Tooble.TV (free for Mac) to search and download at home,

straight to your iTunes (free, Mac or PC) account. Burn a CD, drag to a flash drive or sync to your

iPod and you are in charge of your media life!

Did you know there are over 200,000 commercials available for download?

What a great way to teach irony, foreshadowing or cliche.

It's streaming from YouTube, so of course many of you can't see this at school.....but it'll be there when you get home.

When they self teach, kids choose to learn by TEXT text last. WHY?

We think it’s important to understand how children assimilate new ideas off the internet so quickly and use those techniques to teach standards

Learn About Media Literacy- Elizabeth Thoman              One of the BEST educational futurist writers              Want to see what's REALLY going on out there?

Use COMMERCIALS TO TEACH - over 220,000 available @ YouTube, right now!

TV commercials are surgically precise in their idea delivery due to the :30 timeframe. When well done, commercials tell a complete story in half a minute. The best commercials entertain, and if you watch carefully, you'll see any number of literary devices being used ~ especially irony.

TV commercials will make your classroom more efficient!

Teaching foreshadowing? Instead of digging through book after book and page after page, you COULD show and diagram 10 commercials in one period. And we all know reps are the key to mastery. Don't wait until the end of a book to ask one question on flashback - front load the book with a period of commercials and send the kids on a scavenger hunt - while they read.

TOOLS for teachers:

Over 40 Lit devices defined with FREE MP3 audio clips > Check out the main page for THOUSANDS of historical speeches

DOWNLOAD YouTube videos directly to your itunes account FREE: Videora.com (pc only, Macs use Toobl.TV)

Store all your commercials in your iTunes account (iTunes handles videos, too).

Download a Characterization Lesson Plan from the CTAP7 squad (standards aligned) :Characterization Lesson Plan.doc

Other ways to use commercials:

Teach narrative structure in :30 (use the Story Structure.pdf as the template)  •  Freeze commercials they've never seen to practice prediction

Cover the four types of conflict.pdf using commercials • This leads to kids MAKING commercials (creative and expository at the same time)

All right, all you STEM teachers

Free Microsoft PowerPoint presentations Biology, Chemistry Math, English, History, Physics, Geography, and  Spanish powerpoints.

Use and alter these presentations freely or any power point template used in this presentations site for other teachers.

If you have any powerpoints then please consider submitting them for other teachers to download too. It's all about sharing and helping others.

Powerpoints and whiteboards are likely to increase in popularity year by year as more and more schools adopt them. It doesn't replace good

teaching, but it does help visualise and concentrate the mind of the children watching the powerpoint.
